The Bar Rates the Judges

The Bar rates the Judges

The Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association recently released the results of its evaluation of the county's Superior Court bench. The 22 judges were rated on legal ability, integrity and impartiality, professionalism and administrative skills. Jurors who heard trials before the judges also were asked to evaluate them; four judges were on special assignment and did not preside over enough trials to be rated. In the ratings here, judges are shown in alphabetical order. Juror rating is the average of scores in 14 categories, mostly involving judicial demeanor and professionalism. Also included are four representative comments from attorneys, who were not identified in the survey. The judges were given the opportunity to comment. The numbers in parentheses beside scores indicate the judges' ranking in that category, with 1st being the best.
