What do you see as the three top issues facing Auburn?
Auburn is a growing from a town to a city and developing the foundation for that growth is a priority issue.
Being at the table with all the necessary levels of government so we are getting our share of distributed funds to maintain our infrastructure.
Working with the Ports of Tacoma and Seattle to move commerce through the area. The State does not provide adequate funding to maintain trucking routes.
What measures would you support to keep your city living within its means?
We need to be active in searching for grants to keep the infrastructure in good condition. We need to be good stewards of the money available so that we do not need to raise utility rates
making life difficult for the citizens.
We must always be aware that any money borrowed must be paid back and the means of that paying back must be there before any borrowing takes place
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
This is a time where we must be at the table as a city or we will be an Item on the table and the experience and connections that I have will be important. My knowledge of the system earned me an OUTSTANDING rating by the Municipal League of King County. We cannot afford the 2 year learning curve for a new councilman.
Personal Statement:
My decision to run for a 4th term was made after careful evaluation of my health and energy. I would not run if I did not think I would be an asset to my city in the next four years. I have no specific agenda I just want to use my experience to help Auburn during this growth period.
Experience: My civic service experience includes the Auburn Fire and Police Department as their chaplain for 7 years 1997-2004, the Auburn Senior High School PTSA treasurer for 2 years 2007-2009, and active membership in the Auburn Noon Lions Service Club for 10 years (president 2008-2009).
Education: Auburn Senior High 1982.
Bachelor of Science, Biblical Education, Multnomah Bible College 1997.
Continuing education, Math and Sciences, Green River Community College 2008 - present.
What do you see as the three top issues facing Auburn?
CONFIDENCE: The relationship and communication between the citizens (residents and business owners) and the city government needs to be strengthened. When the public does not feel served, progress is difficult.
BUDGET: We need to prioritize and adhere to a balanced city budget. The commitment is to live within the means provided us.
INFRASTRUCTURE: We need to care for the large-scale public systems, services, and facilities that are necessary for economic activity.
What measures would you support to keep your city living within its means?
Wages and benefits make up 40% of our cities general budget. I support change to positions that are no longer relevant or practical and wages that are not equivalent to similar positions within our region.
I support limiting any financing of non-infrastructure services and contracts. We need patience and savings for structural developments.
I support prioritizing special interest services, projects, and activities. We need to identify and delegate situations that are beyond our mission statement.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
I believe that this is the perfect time to start building FUTURE into the leadership of our council. My generation needs to be represented in leadership and responsible for the direction of our city. My service and ideas will be fresh. I am not bound by "that's how we've always done it." We need a leadership at different life stages for perspective, accountability and strength if we are going to move our city forward.
Personal Statement:
I bring fresh perspectives, solid values, and a common sense approach to a city council needing leadership able to face the challenges of the next decade. I am stepping forward to ensure that the next generation will have the same sense of community, safety, and opportunities that my family experienced. I want to be an ear, a voice, and a hand for those living and working in the Auburn community.
