What do you see as the three top issues facing the district?
What measures would you support to keep the district living within its means?
Financial accountability is critical in my role as a school board member. The board sets priorities and adopts a budget to establish how your tax dollars are spent. Our budget reduces expenditures and preserves the District's mission to provide quality teaching in the classroom. I am proud of the district's reputation of being fiscally responsible. With continued oversight and a commitment to student learning, we can provide the resources our kids need to be successful.
What more should the district do to improve student achievement?
Teachers have a strong and lasting impact in the classroom. One of the most important responsibilities we have as a school board is to set policy that fosters favorable learning environments for kids. We must continue to provide students and teachers with curriculum and resources that will improve achievement. Building teachers skills and knowledge through professional development is one of the most important investments we can make to ensure quality learning for all students.
Personal Statement:
All my years as a school board director has taught me many things about education and how the Washington State Education System works. I am committed to providing our students with a quality education. If re-elected I look forward to working with our community and district to make Sumner School District a great place to learn.
