What do you see as the three top issues facing Puyallup?
1. Transportation solutions. I'll work proactively for increased neighborhood traffic safety, congestion relief, and parking availability downtown. 2. Growth management and development planning. Growth is mandated and inevitable, but I'll work hard to ensure that Puyallup's growth occurs according to how residents want it. 3. Lack of government transparency and lack of confidence in current council/manager. I'll shine a light on open government obstacles, and I'll hold every official accountable to the public.

What measures would you support to keep your city living within its means?
I'll focus hard on the basics first. Given the city's current amount of debt and the overall economy, I would not approve $70 million projects (example: our new city hall) if we can accomplish our business without it. Citizens' concerns about infrastructure remain unaddressed, therefore our resources aren't being directed appropriately. The current council insists that we're in great financial shape, so there is no excuse for not providing the basics of local government.

Why are you the best candidate for this office?
I do my homework. Simply put, I have the technical tools, as well as the practical experience to do this job effectively. My record reflects years of breaking down barriers to progress, in order to solve problems. I can recognize when rhetoric has reached an acceptable limit, and I'm action-oriented. When others stall, I initiate action. To me, public service is not a political tool, and I've always put the public's needs above my own.

Personal Statement:
This isn't a race about who has lived in Puyallup longer. How a candidate has spent his years is more important than the number of years. Please examine your choices closely. Together, we can make Puyallup the most livable small city in America by protecting our small-town heritage and actively pursuing economic opportunity. I've already been advocating this for you as an active citizen at council meetings. Your vote will help this vision become policy.

What do you see as the three top issues facing Puyallup?
*Growth Management: We need to manage Puyallup's growth so as to not lose focus of the heritage and traditions of the city. Increased growth also means increased public safety as well. *Financial Management: This is a critical issue in today's economic environment. We must make sound financial decisions and keep a close watch on the city's checkbook. *Restore Voter Confidence in the Council. It's my belief that effective communication begins with rational discussion.

What measures would you support to keep your city living within its means?
Closely scrutinize city budgets and expenditures. Make necessary budget cuts where needed keeping in mind those services critical to the city's everyday operation. Require accountability, from all department heads, to the the City Manager that relate to the financial well being of the city. With today's tough economic climate it is imperative that all those associated with the finances of the city operate with a common goal of financial accountability.

Why are you the best candidate for this office?
I offer a level headed common sense approach to governing, considering each side of an issue before making a decision. I have no hidden agenda, I am not aligned with any individual or group. I have lived in Puyallup over 40 years and I am involved in my community. My profession has taught me that effective communication comes through healthy discussion. Screaming, and finger pointing get you nowhere. I truly am the candidate of moderation.

Personal Statement:
Three council positions being narrowed down by a primary shows me there is an increasing interest in politics in Puyallup. It's my impression that the voters want a change in their council. As your representative my promise is to listen to your concerns, ideas and suggestions and do my best to see that the needs of our district and the city are represented. I take great pride in our community. Thank you for your support!
