What do you see as the three top issues facing Orting?
Orting faces many challenges right now. The city economy, the youth and the rivers all need attention right away. By supporting current businesses and encouraging new businesses, the economy would improve from increased jobs in town and commerce. The youth in our town need support. We can support them through more resource officers, their schools and programs. Working with the concerned citizen coalitions that are in place, we can find solutions together to flooding.

What measures would you support to keep your city living within its means?
The current administration is working diligently to survive in a difficult economy. I want to find ways to help Orting thrive. By taking a closer look at the budget, I am certain that funds can be redistributed in ways that could benefit the entire city. Also, by utilizing current programs, the city can better utilize the resources it has available so that funds aren't being used unnecessarily.

Why are you the best candidate for this office?
Running a non-profit and a small business in town and having lived in Orting for 11 years, I have a great perspective on what works well and what needs to change. I love my town and the people that live in it. As Mayor, I will work to support those people that have always had a voice in town and those that have not. I will always listen and I will represent Orting citizens well!

Personal Statement:
Albert Einstein once said, "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile". I chose that as my motto years ago. As Mayor, I will work hard to create an atmosphere in our town of inclusion and support. I will work towards complete governmental transparency. I will get Orting where it needs to be. By the end of my term, people who do not live in Orting, will be jealous of those who do!

What do you see as the three top issues facing Orting?
Flooding, traffic and public safety. I led the effort to create an emergency plan to include flood issues, and directed emergency repairs of the dike in 2006. A solid plan that includes turn lanes in the main intersection and a business bypass will improve traffic from a "Grade D" to a "Grade B." Our police and fire have improved significantly in the past three years. We need more police officers and plan to address this.

What measures would you support to keep your city living within its means?
Because of conservative fiscal management, we have lived within our means for many years, and I plan to continue those budget measures. This year, when other cities and towns were scrambling mid-year, Orting had already done the major cuts at the beginning of '09. I plan to be as conservative in 2010. Under the current economics, unfortunately, there is no room for added programs. We must keep our belts tightened.

Why are you the best candidate for this office?
I believe experience counts. It means I understand the organization of city, county, state, and federal government and have working relationships with leaders at each level. I know what it takes to hire good city employees. I know families, businesses, seniors. One term is not enough to accomplish goals I've set with Orting citizens in mind: to further address flooding, support businesses to a higher degree and solve our traffic and public safety issues.

Personal Statement:
Because I have 20-plus years working with airlines, schools, and fire departments as a professional communications manager, I understand the importance of listening and responding to taxpayers. I know Orting business owners, young families, and long-time residents. I have owned businesses and volunteered in Orting's schools. I work with state legislators to improve Hwy. 162. John and I raised our children here and enjoy walking the trail with our three Labradors and our new granddaughter.
