What do you see as the three top issues facing Fife?
Best revenue use of land rather than best use land management required by Washington law. Causing displacement of water to other properties, flooding, damaging the Puyallup River Levy and our seawall, which protect Fife citizens from Puget Sound.
Server road damage by trucks and industry without adequate long-term environmental impact statements ever performed.
Damage of critical agricultural food resources production land driving up local, state and regional food costs for all people.
What measures would you support to keep your city living within its means?
Do not depend on help from the federal government.
Do not use the city's reserve funds at all until a dire emergency.
Do not speculate on tax money/revenue sales or forecast on moneys that may never come.
Reduce all outgoing expenditures, readdress all current goals and project whether the city can afford them.
Renegotiate all wages.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
I come to serve and to represent the People of Fife's interest, not developers, not big business, not outside interest groups. I will work to protect:
Our river levy.
Us from flooding; have excellent evacuation routes and shelters.
Reduce truck traffic road damage.
Protect property rights of citizens and creek rights.
Stop expansion of industry and speculative large business limiting it to the Port of Tacoma.
Critical agricultural land.
Personal Statement:
I have been asked by the Citizens of Fife to run for the Position 3 to represent their issues and views on the council, not other special interest groups but the people and citizens. I am a citizen of Fife, third generation Pierce County and fourth generation Washington state. I come to serve the People of Fife and assure adequate notice is given citizens by U.S. Mail.
Experience: Fife City Council (February 2008 to Present), Fife City Council Delegate to the Puyallup School District (2009), Fife City Council Delegate to the North Pierce County Community Council (2008-2009)
Education: After completing two years at Illinois State University from 1996 to 1999, I decided to support my wife and her dream of a college education. My wife and I recently made the decision to sacrifice in the short term and allow me to go back and finish my degree. I have applied to and hope to be accepted into The University of Washington at Tacoma to complete a degree in urban studies.
What do you see as the three top issues facing Fife?
1. Fife has the highest per capita crime rate in the State of Washington. We need a fully staffed police force that is sustainable and properly trained to handle the problems of today and tomorrow.
2. We need more involvement from everyone in our community. Our citizens and businesses must work together to better this community.
3. Fife must build, strengthen and in some cases rebuild relationships with all of our surrounding governmental authorities.
What measures would you support to keep your city living within its means?
As a small and growing city Fife simply can't afford everything for everyone. We must continue to lobby our Federal, State and Local Governments for financial assistance. Our staff has and must continue to focus on grants to help with the major capital projects we must complete in the future. The council also must identify the core services our community needs and then set sustainable levels that we can afford to deliver to our residents.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
I have been and will continue to work passionately for the needs of our citizens. I have a proven track record of working together with people to accomplish goals. My campaign is based on a lost concept in politics. We must invite people from different view points together to solve problems. We also must be willing to compromise with those same people for the betterment of our community, county, state and nation.
Personal Statement:
I believe that Fife is a city that families can be proud to raise their children. Our city's needs have changed over the past half century. A town that was created to support the school district and local farmers has changed into a thriving urban area that is the gateway to Pierce County and the Port of Tacoma. I would appreciate your support and vote in November!
